This raises at least one question though, Lornz. AMP Trading offers CQG with either NinjaTrader or CQG Trader and they both use the same feed in this particular case (I have used both through AMP). I'm asserting no conclusions, but there are questions here that need answering. At minimum, this separate AMP Trading NinjaTrader-based CQG feed can support CQG Trader, but they clearly are not mutually exclusive feeds.

There is a difference between Ninjatrader w/CQG and CQG's own products. There is no difference between brokers when using CQG Trader or IC.

Gotcha, so basically when using Amp the feed is coming from Amp and not directly from CQG? I'm trying to understand if the same would be true using Velocity or etc. And I am thinking no, simply because when you "use" Velocity to obtain CQG, what you are obtaining is CQG IC and not NinjaTrader. So basically to use CQG thru NinjaTrader, which means thru Amp, that is when Amp is involved in the feed itself.

Sound right?

Mike

This may not be the case, only because AMP Trading also supports CQG Trader from their NinjaTrader-based CQG feed. One thing is clear, CQG Trader can work with AMP's system (I've used it), even though they do not officially support the platform. I could not, however, run CQG Integrated Client from the AMP CQG feed. It raises some additional questions. I suspect the answer lies in the fact that AMP built their CQG connector with the CQG Trader API, which is different than the CQG API. I have no knowledge of the server configurations and how they differ, if they differ at all.

Press Releases

I can't find the press release I read when it was announced. Or maybe it was on the NT forum. Regardless, there is a separate server for Ninjatrader at CQG. I am unsure how this affects things. Amp claims that the order routing is the same, so maybe the server only is for historical data. I am sure you can get Ray to answer this during the upcoming webinar.

I did not know that the IC doesn't work via Amp....

For clarity: I specifically have used CQG through AMP Trading (with both NinjaTrader and CQG Trader) as well as CQG directly. I think it's also worth noting that I used CQG Trader on AMP's feed before I believe AMP was even aware that this could be accomplished. I say this, because AMP support had no idea what I was talking about when I called inquiring about its use. In fact, they told me this was impossible. Recently, Dan Culp has pointed out that they do in fact support CQG Trader, albeit unofficially. When I compared both CQG sources, I observed no difference in quality or timeliness. I have used Zen-Fire, as a backup feed, through various firms and I've found the same result everywhere: a feed that is speedy most of the time, save for when it isn't, and a feed that is fairly consistently innaccurate; possibly due to its UDP nature? For the NinjaTrader users here (I know there are many), AMP will tell you that CQG is the obvious choice between the two. For the record, I live in and operate from Chicago, and I do not know of any serious traders here that choose Zen-Fire over TT (X_TRADER, specifically), CQG, CTS, or Pats. I do know some that use the eSignal feed and Zen-Fire for order entry, however. I hope that helps.

With Zen Fire there is a difference depending on the broker (gateway server). For example, one broker may have a lot of trouble or disconnects, and another broker not --- both using Zen Fire. Then of course a third broker, using the original Rithmic source, may be even different still.

I am not sure about CQG 100%, but it seems there are similar situations/configurations. For example, CQG is known to be extremely reliable, yet there are a lot of posts on the forum about people who use Amp Futures and get CQG thru them having problems here and there.

So it might be useful to list what broker you are using when talking about CQG. CQG thru Amp vs CQG thru Velocity may be different for example, because of the FCM gateway servers. Again, I don't know this for sure, just going based on what users have said in the forum. I think a third option still is those who subscribe to CQG directly from CQG itself, and not through your broker at all.

Mike

I'm tired, sorry! Typing the extra few characters was simply too much effort. For next time, would you prefer two 'Ha's' or one 'LOL'?

Anyway, now I'm really curious. I may have to call Dan next week to get to the bottom of this. All in spite of that fact that I don't really use the account! I hope that doesn't deter him from answering the questions. I'll make certain not to mention Big Mike .
