Thankyou everyone for your replies.
The responses gave me information and details that hadn't even occured to me to explore.

I will do some further research as I will probably not go live with Apex purely from the cost aspect. I doubt I would be able to negotiate a much lower cost with them as I won't be a volume trader.

Cheers, Steve

Craig from Apex has asked me to correct some details regarding Apex rates. I have copied the text directly from his email to me:

I saw your post on Big Mike's and as usual the posts are incorrect. Our ES rate is $2.26/contract including all of the fees. Big Mike won’t let brokers post their rates, so can you do me a favor and post that correction for me?

I think 'AS USUAL" is a bit harsh. @fattails went to the website and saw the first thing I saw which was.

Code
* $1.99 commissions per side for electronic trading. Exchange and NFA fees not included.

Math. A gateway drug to reality.

you can tell Craig from APEX to post his rebuttal online, all he has to say is that his comms are wrongly quoted and refer the members to the right page... but from the pages I just saw on his website, he is not on the level... so I say, run.....

specially when he is wrong about IB's not posting their prices, Matt from Optimus quotes his fees all the time, and I doubt that he would get preferential treatment just because he advertises on the site, so Craig should post directly. he is welcome to post/comment on this thread if he feels his company is not being evaluated properly.

Hi traderwerks and Sysot1t

I will leave it to Craig to decide how he may or may not wish to respond.
I guess he is monitoring posts on the Forum as he became aware of my post and mentioned it in the reply to a different query I had (regarding data feed).

Cheers, Steve

If I go to the website of APEX it is clearly advertised that the commission rates for futures are $ 1.99 per side, exchanges fees and NFA fees not included. If Craig advertises these rates on his website, he should not complain and tell us that our posts are incorrect.

The rates I have put down are all non-negotiated rates for low volume traders. Probably each of those brokers will let you negotiate discounts depending on volume so that you may trade at a reasonable cost.

Please explain, how I shall find out from the website below that the ES rate is $ 2.26 per side.

Hi sysot1t

Sorry, I did not see your post until now. Steve's rate is $2.26/contract for the ES and anyone can have that rate, just mention this post. Not sure how we haven't been "on the level."

Also, not sure what you mean by me being wrong about IB not posting their prices, I never said that anywhere or to anyone. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Thanks,

Craig Ross

I still dont see your website showing $1.13 per side, but rather still showing $1.99 per side... also... as per your statement reported by @ steveh3167 :

Big Mike won’t let brokers post their rates, so can you do me a favor and post that correction for me?

that I am aware.. Optimus(A Borker, hence an IB just like yourself)... has posted their rates publicly within his thread.

I'm getting ready to open a futures account and found Apex, along with a list of others, most of which I've ruled out because of fees for platforms or high commissions . I've talked with the people at Apex and am demoing their Apex Trader now, which seems fine for my needs.

If someone can shed some light on a few things, I would appreciate it.

I'm not sure how big Apex is, how many customers they have, etc. They seem to be relatively small and I hope this doesn't mean they could be so small that they might go out of business.

Apex Trader seems to be the same platform that Vankar offers which, I've found out from reading these forums, is the Open E Cry platform. Is this correct?

I'm still a couple of weeks away from opening a live account and I'm starting out small and don't imagine that I'll ever want to pay for data or platforms so Apex looks like a good fit for me. But I could be wrong.

TIA

I'm currently in the process of deciding which futures broker to set up an account with to trade FDAX. At the moment, I have whittled it down to between Apex and Deep Discount Trading.

DDT are cheap and have great reviews. I have been talking to Apex too and I think I may be able to get them down cheaper than DDT. However, I can hardly find any reviews on Apex. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with them that they can share?

Also, I would be using OEC data feed with Apex vs CQG with DDT. Can anyone explain the difference between the two data feeds? I know CQG is more expensive. Does one tend to have a better reputation/more reliable than the other?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
