Hello all,

I've been learning about trading for the past year now. I never thought I would get into this stuff but my friend introduced me to Acorns, an automatic investment app, that works like Betterment or Wealthfront. I figured it would be something to save money with so I started using it and putting a little bit away. Every since I was a kid, I've always had an obsession with understand how things work so this began my foray into finance.

I started understanding how Acorns worked, learned about ETFs, then about stocks, then tried stock trading. The PDT rule dashed my hopes of being a stock trading pretty quickly as I was a senior in college and didn't have $25k. Played around on Robinhood for a few weeks with small trades. Lost $10 trading stocks.

Moved on to forex since there were low min capital requirements and I could place very small trades. Worked very hard at this for about 4 months. Made all the newbie mistakes, thinking I knew more than I did, trading too big, revenge trading. I ended my focus on forex after netting about $60 on a small account. Yee haw! Keep in mind, this was on an account that I had an Open PnL of $850 at one time which turned into an $80 loss. I decided that forex wasn't for me because the market moved too slowly, and I hate sleeping on open positions.

I then moved on to futures. A lot of my technical analysis skills applied to trading the ES. I've really only ever looked at trading the ES/NQ/YM and CL. I've pretty much narrowed to the only the ES as I get closer to opening a live futures account. I also found that my strong programming background applies very well to algo trading which I do through Ninjatrader. I've been trying to create strategies off and on for the past 3-5 months trying to get something working but they're ok at best.

Recently, I've used the Ninjatrader replay and historical data to do a lot of training and learning on how futures markets move. I recently bought a Kinetic subscription and have been trying to trade live markets to see how I fair on a sim account. I seem to be doing fairly well trading 3 contracts and averaging $200-$500 a day when I trade. I'm not quite sure how long I plan on practicing on the sim before I open my account with Interactive Brokers through Ninjatrader.

This seems to be a great community and I'm excited to get to talk with other traders. Sadly, fellow traders are something I lack and I've found in my other hobbies (computers and cars) it also helps to have people to talk to.

Nice to meet all of you!

Hi, I've had a pretty similar experience, especially the forex part, except worse, ehm Good luck with the live account!
