I am new to this forum after being invited here by my friend Todd. I am still a trader in the making after spending the last 2+ years studying FUT trading, and now just recently learning FUT Options trading. I feel I have a long way to go yet, and my hopes are that I can learn from everyone here, and perhaps pay it forward as time goes by.

I currently work for a living in the IT field for a commercial real estate developer in TN/VA. I like common sense and hard work, so it's no issue for me to put the time in to be successful at trading. I'm happy to share my experience up to this point and I look forward to sharing in your experiences as well.

Best,
Greg in Tennessee

This is a great forum to definitely learn from others and learn more about trading strategies, best data feeds etc. What I've learned that is most important is to have a reliable trading platform. I use Cannon Trading's E-Futures platform. Who are you currently using?

Thanks for the input! I have been using Gecko's Track and Trade Live as well as EOD for several years, but am currently looking to see what else is out there that is cost comparable when it comes to data feeds. I really do like the "Live" data that TnT Live provides, but I also just went with OptionsExpress and DeCarley since I am concentrating on option writing.

UPDATE: I'm finding that TnT Live option data is not the most accurate, so the search continues for good data along with decent and easy charting.

Hi TNGreg,

what made you to switch from futures to options? Or do you still do both? Could you please recommend some good sources to learn more about FUT Options?

Thanks.

Nojgic,

I found I was very avers to the risk and swings that futures trading presents. While I did OK with trading, I was not comfortable with the level of risk I was experiencing. I found that option trading using a deep OTM strategy was much more palatable for me (but there is still a level of risk I am having to learn to deal with). However, with that said, I still hold in my bag of strategies the tools of Futures trading since many times they are needed to protect or recover a position in trouble.

As for sources to learn options trading... Understand that I pale in comparison to most here who trade options, and that I am still in the learning stage (and will be for years). For myself, I have studied Common Sense Options (David Duty), Options Made Easy (Guy Cohen), Trade Like A Bookie (David Caplan), and dozens of web sites that I have found mentioned here within this forum.

If you are interested in Option trading, then I think this forum is as good as it gets to find sources of knowledge in the form of books, websites and fellow members who graciously offer advice and guidance. Good luck!

Greg

Florian,

I am still perfecting my Option strategies, but I tend to lean towards writing naked deep OTM options in med to high volatility markets. Strangles work well for me also. As of late however, I have been concentrating on perfecting a daily scalp method since I am averse to the stress of position trading in FUT. Good luck in your trading quest! You have found a good place here to get involved with others re trading.
