my name is Rainer.
I am a Trader since around 10 years (or more dont really remember ) and doing this fulltime for around 4 years.
Actually I am using eSignal as Data Source and Charts, but preparing to change to NT7. Main reason for changing charting program is that eSignal does not support other scripting than EFS. It is not that I dont like JavaScript. No JS is ok for little formulas. But it is not so much good for larger extensions, because it needs to be interpreted at runtime each time it is loaded. So it can become slow. In addition the V10.xx is very old application that does not make use of modern hardware and operating systems. Basically it is good for a museum today. Maybe that V11 will become better. But actually it does not have implemented other than EFS script.
So I started with NT7 now which supports .NET and C# for extensions.
While looking around for informations about NT7, I found this forum and already VERY USEFUL Information - Thanks to the Thread "NinjaTrader and VS2010 for Dummies"
So it is a good start right now.
Best to All,
Rainer

Thanks Mike,
Glad to be here... I am a sim trader, hoping to start live trading as soon as I can find indicators that work at least 60-70% of the time. I've traded Stocks and Options in the past and lately interested in the futures market.
I use the NT platform and just recently upgraded to v7. Some cool features there, especially on charting.
I hope to learn from all and will contribute in whatever way I can.
Thanks!!

Welcome and good luck on your journey finding indicators that work at least 60-70 percent of the time. Indicators in and of themselves don't work that well. If they did I believe this forum would be full of reports of those 70% indicators . My pretty extensive but unscientific study shows that indicators work more like 30-40% of the time. With some tweaking and curve fitting you can get them to work at a higher success rate but then they stop working after a while. However, you're in a great place to learn how to trade.

You might want to take a look at .

Hello all,

After many years of mixed to poor results as a discretionary trader, I recently started to test a few mechanical systems, some developed by me and a few by vendors. I find this subject of automation fascinating and believe it is the wave of the future for retail traders given the advances in technology and software and the hurdle of harnessing human emotions.

The challenge, however, is the same regardless of the approach. Namely, to find a consistent edge that can pass the test of time.

Greetings!

I've been trading for over 15 years, primarily equities both short and long term. Early this year I started day trading as well. It's been an interesting experience and I hope to learn from others as well as share my experiences.

I use MultiCharts as my software platform and Interactive Brokers for trading.

My name is Walter and I am a active trader for about 5 years. Since 2008 I am trading for living.
I was with eSignal as my preferred trading platform since 2002. My preferred instruments were and are
ES Mini, Russel Mini, DAX, EUR.

In past months I was looking for a modern charting platform which supports 64bit OS with a reliable data feed.
eSignal was not bad for me but the software is - from my perspective - not up to date. The upcoming version might eliminate some of the obstacles the older version had.

I am impressed by NT 7 so far and decided to give it a try. Btw. I was pointed to this forum and must say that the first impression is fantastic. It is always helpful to have a community which honestly helps each other to achieve the results one try to achieve.

My thank goes to Big Mike for this opportunity.

See you in this forum
Walter

I have been trading for several years, but more seriously in the last two. more out necessity thanks to the economic downturn.

I day trade futures and longer term with options. I have found that I can predictably nail an entry, but fail at timing the exit properly, either by holding on too long and watching profits evaporate, chickening out and exiting, or trailing stops too tight. Reading posts from other members is helping me take the emotion out of my trading. Hard thing to do.

Thanks to Big Mike for this forum.
