Hello everyone, I'm in my 40's and I have been trading since 1987, just before the crash actually...doh!. I haven't traded a lot for my own accounts compared to many of you, but have traded more than the average man on the street. I have always been a computer guy since 1982 and ran BBS's back then. I wanted to get my degree in something more interesting so after I got out of the service, I got my BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo. My first job out of college was with a small firm called Opportunities in Options as a commodity broker. I was doing that for a couple of years and due to budget cuts they had layed off the entire IS department hence I would reset the WAN bridge and keep futuresource satellite feeds going when it would go down so I could keep working and ended up rebuilding the databases in the evening, because they had old crappy 10Base2 cables would drop a segment corrupting the databases. After 6 months of working like that they told me they would double what I was making if I would take of the computer department. I jumped at it and was thrown back into the IT world. It has been good to me since then but I have topped out in what I want to do in it and salary unless I want to move and travel more... I don't.
Today I find myself in an odd position, where I have an job setup that could end literally any day. I am working from home on a 6 figure salary and not really having to do much most of the time. The small company that is contracting me to Netapp doesn't care since I get to bill my time to one account to hang out. The downside is they don't have a retirement contribution account but I have loads of free time sitting in front of the computer waiting for that instant message saying they need me to do something for them. (I'm thinking work on that old trading system in my head)
I've never really had the mindset for day trading but I do like short term (weeks timeline) trading and subscribe to a more of a trend following ideal for myself. I have explored hundreds of systems and methods (albiet years ago) from working on Neural Networks, Elliot Waves, Mandelbrot theory, to seasonal trading by Jake Bernstein, etc. I worked on implementing and testing some system ideas years ago using "Supercharts" and when I was a commodity broker we had FutureSource to use. Today I only use an indicator I fully understand every variable and it's strengths and weaknesses of and really try to keep it simple and look to smooth, trend and obtain momentum measurments in only very liquid markets.
I have my equities accounts at Fidelity right now and will keep that going since my trade volume is so low and just use that for Stocks and ETF's. I am trying to investigate Software charting that has back testing and system creation capabilities and data source (with historical), 15 minute delay is fine for now and a brokerage for Futures and maybe forex.
So this is me...sorry it's so long winded.

I havent blown up my account yet, come close once or twice. For those who are new, practice before you go live, know why, when, where and how to get out before you do anything. Never jump into a trade because u think u missed it, and never revenge trade. The markets can make you feel on top of the world when everything comes together in a trade, but they can be a cold hearted b..ich when you dont follow a tested , well thought out trading plan. Good Luck

Hello Mike,
I am grateful to have discovered your forum and for the gems of resources provided to new traders. I discovered your site mostly by searching for Ninjatrader assistance, and it blew my mind to discover your video for ninjascript code.

As I know nothing about code & script writing, I was hoping to use the wizard to create my automated strategies, but my requirements were already too complicated for the wizard.

WOndering whether you have a code writing business one can engage?- When I get my ideas clarified and perhaps simplified.

Many thanks,

Hi,

I am Raphael Daune, I am 30 and I've been professional trader for the last 4 years. First in stock derivatives, then in Forex and now I am specialising in Futures market. I blew up my first capital, and now I am making big efforts in order to succeed. For the moment, I am a little bit stagnating but I feel confident that I am not so far from success.
My trading platform is NinjaTrader and I use Nexgen T3 Pro Fib trading system, which is, I think, a good system, but a tough one to master.
My favourite instruments are 6E EURUSD, 6B GBPUSD, CL oil and NQ Nasdaq.

I hope to learn a lot in this community and will share a lot of my knowledge, as I am convinced that it is better to work in team to succeed.

See you soon in the forum!!

Hey everyone. I've been trading futures & commodities off & on for the past year. I've won some and lost some more but have been able to keep hanging in there. I'm using Ninja with Zenfire and like the platform and reliability. I'm naturally risk adverse so I sometimes have trouble "pulling the trigger", but I feel that my main problem is not having a method that I trust.

I really have no idea about how to find a method that I'm comfortable with. How did you guys go about finding your method? Also, if anyone is looking to take a dedicated, teachable person under their wing let me know. I have the desire and commitment to do this but feel like I need a little guidance.

Hi Mike! Thanks for setting up this fantastic forum!

I am a big fan of pivots, and I am in the process of building an automated trading strategy in NT7, with Pivots being one of the few critical conditions. I am unable to get it to work, and I'm tearing my hair out trying to find a solution!!!

I am reading up on some of the threads, and hope to find some solutions there! Would be keen to help as well in any way if I can.

Cheers,
Skyholder
