Hi Big Mike and all other members.

About 15 years ago I was at a point where I had some extra cash and the urge to self direct my trading account. I chose options because I knew a friend of a friend who was having success doing that. I paid for a premium education, almost as much as I paid for my first home, and felt equipped with the knowledge needed to become a successful stock options trader. About a year later I had burned through an amount equal to another home purchase. After that I pretty much stayed in cash and real estate. Fifteen year later I'm at a point where I kind of retired with arguably enough money to last me the rest of my lifetime. I say kind of because I still have ownership in a business but act on a consultative basis only. I say arguably because who knows what the future holds for me and if my money will last. I can try to predict the future, improve my probability, limit my risk and make an educated guess as to whether it will last or not. Just like choosing an entry and exit when I trade. The truth is I'm not certain and that scares me. When I worked to produce an income I never feared not having enough money. My businesses took care of that. Now that I'm not producing an income I want to reduce or eliminate that fear. I want to develop a trading strategy that proves to me I can consistently produce an income just like I did when I worked. Where I have the same peace of mind of not running out of money. I have been trading FX for about the past 6 months and have pretty much stayed flat in my account. I am looking to learn more about futures and possibly either transition to trading those exclusively or add them to my FX trading. I joined futures.io in hopes of benefiting from the community it provides.

Hi everyone,
I'm a trader coming from FX Spot,so futures is relative new to me .However saying that I may have some ideas to share after looking around the futures site .
I was attracted to futures because of the open book ,depth of market and now I'm tending to trade with combination of price action and technical analysis. So I decided to go with Ninjatrader Broker , just hoping they are as good as some of the reviews say !!
Thanks to Big Mike for the follow up post.
Good trading

Hi everyone!

Like most day traders, I blew up my account a couple times and lost enough money to make most grown men weep.
After I regrouped I started trading with common sense and with control of my emotions.

Later, I decided I wanted a forum to share my ideas as well as learn from others. I created my blog on April 17th, 2009 in order to meet this goal, as well as hold myself accountable for my trades and actions. I wanted a way to be able to lookback and ensure I was following my own advice.

Since the blog did very well I decided to create this forum, and it was born June 11th, 2009. The forum was designed with the specific goal of having a small community of traders focused on making money. There are other sites out there but I never really felt at home with many of them, their userbase is too focused on proving someone wrong instead of trying to help.

Also, as you are reading the thousands of posts on the forum -- don't forget to use the Thanks button (bottom right of each post) to let the author know his post is appreciated!

Good hunting!

Mike

Thank you Mike for providing this Forum here: so HUGE.
Totally overwhelming.
sorta like Trading. This too seems overwhelming at times.
or better said what group... i got into, that I don't know how to extricate myself from. - Anyway, Thank you for your resources here.

Hello everyone, i am a new trader, looking to get into the Futures market. I have been watching CL and the Currency Futures but have not traded as yet. I need to set up a trading plan, find a good trading strategy for Futures and find a good Broker. I will appreciate any help and inputs from everyone to help transition into trading real money.
I am a Nurse by Profession - 16 years and nothing to show for it. So i would like to change career.
Thank you all
Gary

Thanks Mike..

Im very much a newbie at trading - concentrating on forex.. Got into it through a thought experiment myself and a colleague had around trying to predict monthly job trends prior to a number of countries announcing their employment/unemployment figures (basically trading on the volatility)... So via a bunch of tools (python, KNIME, SQLServer, Visual Studio, Tableau), have been collecting data direct from web or api's and analysing to get to a decision point each month....

Obviously, this allows only a handful of trades per month (collecting data over 5 countries). So that's how I got here. Not only wanted to get more familiar with the trading vernacular, I wanted to get comfortable with the tools and environments and how they react (or more importantly, how I react) to the ups and downs of trading...

Have been playing around with Autochartist to assist in identifying patterns and possible trades but again - very new and only playing with small amounts to get my head around it... This forum is an extension to my learning and understanding of the marketplace...

Hello All,

I am a developing trader concentrating on the Forex asset class at the moment. I'm focusing on a trading plan that accommodates my full time work schedule aside from trading. I currently interpret the market via where I believe the money is (orders), where liquidity can be absorbed by Institutional entities / Market Makers, where value is perceived via the auction process, the liquidity provider activity inside the spread, and the price action around these areas.
I began the journey in 1991 with a paper trade in hogs (literally ordered paper chart books by mail and updated by hand) for $800 profit, and then I was hooked...I went the gambit of trading courses(Ken Roberts, Joe Ross, to many to remember...), thousands of dollars in books. I went through several accounts trading using Super Charts 3.0 and forging through every indicator I could only to come so close but never seeing. Went through the 1990's frustration of trying to keep up with the constant cycle of trading tool obsoleting/innovation ... In time I was able to gain more clarity and understanding in self-development and less tool development. I believe success will be based on consistency over accuracy, risk management over expectancy, and discipline to follow a plan. The greatest value I have taken from this journey so far is how these principles are universal and come down to basic truths that govern all relationships in and out of trading.

Cheers!

Hello All,
I'm new to trading assets of any kind, having traded part time for the last year. I've moved from stocks to futures, and went live after three or so months of demo trading. At this point, I do have negative P/L. Yet, I look forward to continuing to learn this skill set. I'm focused on the emini as of this time, yet would like to grow to include crude and gold contracts down the road. I'm also prepping to take the Series 3 licence exam, which is in 8 days! I'm currently using NT for execution and ToS for charting. My biggest hurdles(As I can see at this point): Slowing down after each trade(this has gotten alot better), determining the larger trend(5-10 minute range, as I trade off of the 3 minute typically), looking at the result as a number(I do better when I view it as a percentage). My biggest strengths(at the moment): Knowing a day is just a day results aside, being patient(getting better each time), knowing when to close the charts and walk away. I look forward to continued learning alongside you!
Regards,
Joja

Hello All, My story is perhaps kind of different, i started trading with a broker and in the first 2 months, i made 45K on an initial investment of 8K...unfortunately for me, before i could withdraw one cent, i had a few trades open which were going south, but my broker remained optimistic..needles to say, optimism totally misplaced. I lost it all...every cent and have not recovered. I see the potential however, but i need to learn this business and so i hope that by being part of this forum, i will be able to understand better what on earth happened and how i can ensure that it doesn't happen like that again. Hope to hear/read your various tid bits.

Sorry to hear that, should have taken the initial investment out at least after make the 2x-3x of that. If I understand correctly you said you lost it all, that means either the broker played options or futures. At least the loss is manageable. Good luck.
