I spent most of my career in the IT industry (Systems Engineering and Sales) with NCR, IBM, Hitachi Data Systems and StorageTek (now Oracle). I retired recently from IBM, but I still want to work to enable my wife and I to travel and at some point acquire a property in Italy/Spain or perhaps Mexico. Since Job prospects have been weak in the U.S. economy I have decided to begin a trading career to help with reaching my goals for the future.

I am near completion on a very extensive home study course in online trading. In addition, I have read many books and subscribe to monthly magazines (Bloomberg and Economist) and daily newspapers Wall Street Journal and IBD) to help me get my head around some of the complexities and a greater understanding of trading and the markets in general.

I was glad to find Big Mike's Trading Forum and believe I will be able to can gain additional knowledge and understanding of trading while being able to help others in the Forum given my experience to date.

Hi All,

I just joined.

Never traded.

Here in Shanghai, coming to Dallas on 20 day due diligence tour Nov 26th with relocation there on Feb 28th for launch of proprietary trading operation.

12 years work on my Theory of Quantitative Relativity... see Theory of QR page continued at drDimick.com

Account at TS since 2003 and now considering translating all to ntscript to complete logic sequencing utilizing Bloodhound.

First talked and demo-ed Xtrader -- Sara in HK was most helpful as well as the crew. Note that I started with them after seeing a BM youtube on their algo-lab et al.

Did an incomplete demo of John's nexgent3.com system... not sure where I am going with it. Have to talk to John, as he is developing automated version.

Recently talked to David at Multicharts. He was in Russia but sales in Ohio, so I understand.

Also Zac at Shark. Their node/function/solution logic program is similar to XT algo-lab but simplified (meaning more user friendly for an amateur like me).

Suppose to talk to bus dev guys at nt this coming week.

Frankly, wish I could get it all done with TS as their system appears to have the greatest breadth and scope in terms of function-indicator-strategy system integration with order execution as all combined in single platform.

I also have learned loads from their members forum to include help from TS engineers and third-party consultants.

Looking for coder/logic-sequence/algo-quant type to help, maybe partner.

Mike, the forum is a great idea... Well done.

Hello peeps,

I've been a member for a few weeks now and thought it was about time I introduced myself. Name's Harry I'm 24 years old, based in the UK and I've been involved with the markets for about three years now.

I started off looking at spot forex for about a year, fairly lucky I guess I never really got hung up on having a million indicators on my charts like you hear some new traders do but I did attempt to follow a trend following system using moving averages on various short term time frames but never really got it to click.

Next I tried CFD trading, using FTSE 100 CFDs mostly with IG Markets, blew up a few times mostly because of over leveraging.

At this point I realised it wasn't going to be an easy ride like I expected it would be and I'm going to have to start putting the work in if I want to get somewhere with this trading lark.

So we come to the present, thanks to a few contributors on this and other forums, I'd like to mention DionysusToast and a guy known as Darkstar on another forum I started looking at order flow trading and using the DOM for entries and exits. I came across futures.io (formerly BMT) because of the webinars posted on youtube on the topic and I just want to say thanks to Big Mike for the work he has put in organising it all.

About a month ago I gave up the day job to start looking into this full time, luckily I have a supportive girlfriend whose salary covers our costs until I get up and running properly and profitably. Payback for when I supported her through university I guess

At the moment I'm set up with IB and Esignal however I've come to conclusion Esignal is a pain in the ass when searching for symbols and the DOM doesn't show enough info so am looking for an alternative. Currently considering the Jigsaw tools with Ninja and CQG data but haven't yet decided on which broker would be best.

Cheers
Harry

I have been trading for almost 2 years with weak results so far i.e. I am not consistent yet. Would like to trading for a living at some point. Have part time job. Have neither programming nor financial background. Hope to learn some more, get my objective and contribute to the forum.

Regards,

Piotrek

Is there a place or location where traders spend the winter? I'd like to go to a warm climate where I could meet other traders.

I am 55 retired Navy (submarines), working as an operator in nuclear electrical generation. Been studying trading for well over 15 years. Spent a lot of money on books, videos, vendors. Traded spot forex with Tradestation and Alpari US for several years against the brokers. I'm done with that.

Just picked up Ninjatrader, Tradeguider, Emini-Watch, and Day Trade The Markets programs to give it a "professional" try. Papertrading for a bit to put it all together. Still play with a small forex account with FXCM and Metatrader also (hard to throw all that learning and work away for the moment).

I'd really like to see Ensign's "Pesavento Patterns" come to Ninjatrader. That is a fantastic tool used by Bill McCready .. it almost seems like magic in getting one out of a position at a critical price point. Neoharmonics comes close, but alas, I've bought enough software for the time being ($4500) to get my approach going.

Also looking at Horst recently, as I am intrigued by the effortlessness of his macdbbs and fibs approach. I admit it's a little difficult for my "engineering type" mind to understand how the lagging price indicator (macdbb) can predict the future. And so, I'm "looking with caution" (a side hobby for now) as it's a little too discretionary (and expensive) to jump in with both feet for the time being.

We've all seen the vendors come a go over the years. Even the big ones. Apparently, anyone can blow out, or worse .. capitulate their "humanity" and resort to fraud (Nick Van Nice, Master's Palace, etc.) in this game, so it's a real challenge to trust vendors without reservation.

I chose my approach based on tracking smart money footprints using charts (Tradeguider), supplementing that with non correlated and non traditional (lagging) indicators (Emini-Watch), and just discovered DTTM who have a concept called "aggression bars" that seems to be derived from Market Profile and seems to be very indicative of market structure.

Mike, I'm glad you've put this community together. It is extremely appreciated. I have generally only lurked the forums (a lot of my spare time is spent monitoring and and alerting folks to high level criminal activity by secret societies, rogue intelligence assets, suppressed energy and military technologies, etc.), but have learned so much from the contributions of others.

As soon as I've put my "money tree" all together and am consistent I will share with the community what I've done.

"It's so not cool to talk the talk without having walked the walk".

Again, thanks for the forum.

Hi to Mahajrodney and to the rest of the traders here in futures.io (formerly BMT)

I'm a beginner trader who has been playing on demo accounts since 2 years ago. Looking forward to earning regularly through forex and ultimately trade full time.

Hope to learn from the peers and seniors from futures.io (formerly BMT).

Thanks!

Hi there,

I'm new to trading. VERY new. Right now, I think I know just enough to lose everything I own. Needless to say, I've never made a trade, real or sim.

Most of my time right now is spent reading the forums, watching youtube videos, and taking lots and lots of notes. I'm trying to wrap my head around the ninjatrader interface, and learning to read the market. I'm also trying to get a really good grasp on reading the market. I think I find this part to be the most fascinating, seeing all of the different patterns that arise. I think a good handle on trends and patterns will help me make better choices, and help manage the risks that are involved.

Looking forward to at some point being able to give back to this forum, however right now, I'm in sponge mode, and soaking up all of your collective knowledge... THANKS to everyone who has contributed so far.
