Hello everybody, my name is Matteo and I'm from Italy. First thank you to Mike for this forum and thanks to all members who post their ideas.
I'm interesting to volume profile, vwap, footprint, tape reading; actually I work only as a paper trader, my focus is on futures indexes specially fesx and es.
I'm glad to be here and be a part of all this.
for my poor english....

Hi All -

Yet another mug punter! On the other hand, I'm a pretty experienced and fairly successful long-term investor, but have only made a move to trading within the the last couple of months. Why?

Firstly, in the current climate of "financial suppression" and market manipulation, "buy and hold" as an investment strategy is becoming a mug's game. Secondly, I got into gold & silver in a major way in early 2008, and have done very well riding that trend - but the last 6-9 months have made a big dent in that part of my portfolio. However, I'm still a convinced gold-bug, but the current market outlook makes me nervous - so I needed a way to put on a fairly large hedge position against my PM holdings. So that was my first trade - buy a lot of GLD May13 148 puts.

Perversely, I sincerely hope I lose all the money in the position as long as gold recovers, although by putting on the hedge I've probably guaranteed that GLD will stay flat all the way to the end of May now . . .

However, since I've now got an account set up (optionsXpress), I may as well carry on and give this trading lark a go. I'm the careful ponderous type, so I'm reading as much as I can find on the subject (John Carter's book right now), and am slowly planning the next few trades, but only on a small scale just to get experience.

So I'm not looking to turn £500 into £100,000 by next Tuesday. I'd just like to find out if I can do this or not, and develop some new skills which might help me hang on to what money I already have. And maybe I'll even recover the cash this gold hedge will be costing me if I'm lucky.

All helpful suggestions welcome!

Hi To all Forum Members,
My name is Neels and I'm from South Africa. I was introduced to the Forex about 2 years ago. As I was working full time and still I first did not give full attention to the Forex. Then later on I started to get more serious about it and open a demo account and start trading. After 1 week trading I was up over $ 7000.00 and decided to open a live account because if I could do it on a demo account, I can surely do it on a live account for my own pocket. I then deposited $ 200.00 to start off with. It was not a week and my account went to zero. I put in another $ 200.00 to find it after another week, back to zero balance. After I lost about $ 1000.00 I wanted to give up Forex trading completely. I then did a rethinking of my situation and said to myself that I don't except failure and start all over again, back from basics again. I was up over a $ 7000.00 before the "American Cliff", but because I was so certain about my ability to trade the forex at that time, I was trading with only "Take profit", but no "Stop Loss". Then our internet communication went off for 3 days over the American Cliff announcement and when I could go back again to find a $ 45.75 balance left. Since then when I open a trade the first to go on that trade is my "Stop Loss" before even doing my "Take Profit". Now I'm back to where I started originally and working my way up again. The basics in forex trading must just be followed and you will keep on making $, whether it's $1 or $100. Thank you for the chance to introduce myself to the forum. Wish everyone a profitable trading week ahead.

Hi Neels. Welcome to the forum. I am originally from South Africa too. Sounds like you need a solid trading plan to avoid such extreme ups and downs. This is why my username is cowgirl*not*

Hey everyone my name is Rich and I have been a member of Big Mikes for three months. I was wondering if there was any interest from people in the surrounding area (Calgary and Airdrie) that might like to get together once a week for a trading discussion. I was thinking of maybe getting together at a local Tim Hortons for an hour or so and talk about anything and everything that may come up. I was thinking of maybe tuesday evenings. Let me know if anyone might be interested....

I will send you a PM, but I assure you it's a one-time $50 charge for lifetime access, not a monthly charge. There is no cancel because there is no recurring charge.

Mike

I've been trading for 20 years. I only trade big swings 2 to 4 times a year. The rest of the time I am developing trading systems based on market observations. I work out of Hong Kong for most of the year and the rest of the time in Southern Cal. I am looking forward to seeing what this forum has to say. cheers, Triper

I came in here to introduce myself, instead I'm close to rolling around on the floor laughing at this persons paranoid post haha.

My name is Ryan, I'm 24 and have been trading on and off since I was 18, so roughly 6 years. To not beat around the bush, 6 years of trading and I have had only loses over the long haul (all on FX and CFD's). I currently am now am devoting my time to understanding the DOM and reading the tape through T&S quiting FX and starting futures. My last job was working for a multi-national derivatives and FX broker where I learnt more than ever in regards to the market (good but most bad).

While I have been trading for 6 years, I have never had a profitable year or even month, and aged 24, have lost more in the market than you would pay on a brand new Mercedes or BMW x2.

I quit my job in the middle of last year in quest to travel on a RTW trip before 'settling down'. 9 month in, I am currently still traveling and have been to over 20 countries and seen and done lots of wonderful things, along with meeting some amazing people. As I travel I have had more free time on my hands to think about what is really important and what is possible if concentrated 'properly' upon. I decided to join your forum Mike due to the fact that some of the member's within the forum are at a stage in their trading which I aspire to be at.

My overall goal is to trade full-time futures on the ES and/or US Treasuries. I will be using a combination of Ninja trader & Jigsaw to supplement my trading style which is scalping. I will continue to learn from the members in this forum along the way. I would love to have a profitable week combining that with a profitable month then quarter.

Looking forward, one I have proven to myself I am capable of sustaining consistent gains over time, I would then very much enjoy 'giving back' to the community, by providing education in the form of articles, videos, webinars and tuition, to help anyone else struggling to find that overall consistency they need to succeed as a full-time trader.

For now, I shall continue to move forward despite the set-backs I have endured to fulfil my goal of becoming a profitable full-time trader.

Regards,
Ryan
