Hi,
this is my first post in this forum. I was a bit "shy" till now, partially because English is not my mother tongue...
I recently moved to a fully mechanical trading style, trying to keep myself faithful to my plan and learning as much as I can.
Would like to thank Big Mike for this very useful website!

Are there any charts that plot volume in candlestick format? ie.. draw a candlestick for every 100 traded

Short answer... yes, there are many chart types based on volume. For "candlestick volume", here is one example:

"draw a candlestick for every 100 traded" ...I'm not sure what this part means.

hi lu

was only 2 weeks ago that I decided to make the transition from passive Investor to active trader.

The challenges are formidable.

I have to upgrade my net connection, upgrade my pc hardware, get a new desk, reorganize furniture, change brokers, etc.... Having said that I expect everything to be in place by the end of march. In the meantime I am learning how to read charts, different instruments, watching webinars, videos, etc.....

I really like Al Brooks methods. "Gimme a chart and I'll trade it" That is basically my long term goal.

I'm slowly getting a grip on the various factors that make up a successful trader--psychology, strategy, methods, RR, Money management, journals, etc..., and again PSYCHOLOGY---

I have a full time job, family, badminton 3 nights a week, softball most Sundays--so while I remain focused on the task--it is going to take time--lots of it.

So to answer your question--No I have not set up a strategy. That answers the rest of your questions as well.

here's a real newbie question for you--Are there any charts that plot volume in candlestick format? ie.. draw a candlestick for every 100 traded

The reason I asked all those questions is that, after you'll have done all of that, the feeling about missing trade, will be gone you will know there are many many other oportunities. It seems you have a clear head, that's good, you can make it, but realy its very hard job.
About software try ninjatrader 7 they support volume candlesticks. you speaking about psychology, this I am in opinion is the most important thing elone with money management. Try this book: Trading Coach fom Brett N. Steenbarger.
good luck Lu.

Hi everyone!

Like most day traders, I blew up my account a couple times and lost enough money to make most grown men weep. After I regrouped I started trading with common sense and with control of my emotions.

Later, I decided I wanted a forum to share my ideas as well as learn from others. I created my blog on April 17th, 2009 in order to meet this goal, as well as hold myself accountable for my trades and actions. I wanted a way to be able to lookback and ensure I was following my own advice.

The blog introduced me to a lot of fellow traders, some struggling, some doing exceptionally well. Talking with them everyday has really helped my trading and given me a lot of new ideas as well. In turn, I hope that I have provided them something useful that helps in their trading.

Since the blog did very well I decided to create this forum, and it was born June 11th, 2009. The forum was designed with the specific goal of having a small community of traders focused on making money. There are other sites out there but I never really felt at home with many of them, their userbase is too focused on proving someone wrong instead of trying to help.

You can find some more information about me in my profile.

Hi Mike,

Fantastic place you've manged to do here.
I have a day job - worked for the last 10 years almost, after university graduation.
I used to love my job, to work with various people within my domain area, and keeping in touch with everything new on my field. But I think I reached a step where I just don't resonate anymore with the corporate mentality.
More than that, everything crashed and burned after I've just got my hands on some interesting books, the legendary Wizards series being among them.
I'm still working my way through the ton of information in the field, whilst trying to keep a thin balance with the day job.

My biggest challenge is trying to effectively progress while not risking too much my existing career, until I achieve a certain level of confidence that I can move on. As you've probably experienced as well, there are certain types of jobs that eat you alive. And 2 or 3 hours per night is just way too insufficient to get the ball rolling.

Thanks again for the great forum !

Hi everyone! I'm Daniel, currently working as a barista in the coffee shop and i'm studying the market full time.
I'm very fortunate to have my parents supporting my passion to work as a day trader. And with their support,
i have decided to skip the college and use the college money to kickstart my carreer in trading.
I was introduced to this forum by a family friend who is a day trader himself. Overall, I'm looking forward to extend my learning curve. Thank you BikeMike and FatTails and MFBreakout and Gabriyele and BigEasy.

Hi! My name is George but you can call me Yuri. I trade to make a sh!tload of money and have a detailed plan to what to do whit it. My main instruments are forex majors and gold. I plan to make trades on ES and Bund too, I find them very attractive. Number #57 comes from motocross racing which I did a few years back.

I think will be a great trader because I can learn from my mistakes, very persistent and this is the only thing which keeps me interested.

I'm considering starting a journal here, the forum is really cool, I'm amazed the number of professionals here.

Hi All,

I'm John from the UK, I stumbled upon this website by accident, I was searching for murrey math trading.
Well here I am hoping to join in and learn how to trade and possibly help others.

I have been demo trading for about a year now, but still am making silly mistakes, I work full time but would love to make trading my day job.

Hi all,

I am from Singapore and have been trading for more than 10 years. I would say that I had been quite successful until my account was busted... not once... but twice. Painful experience.

Well, what I learnt from my past:
1. I have an edge in trading (mostly inter-market correlation)
2. I was reckless with my risk management. I always second guess myself when it comes to placing (and cancelling STOP LOSS)
3. Trading to me was like a hobby. I had my day job then.

Last Dec I was made redundant and have decided to give myself some time and try to trade full-time. Since I no longer have the safety-net of a full time job, I have to treat trading very seriously... as a business. This also means that I can no longer afford to be reckless and bust my account.

I am trading solely Nikkei Index Futures (both on SGX and CME). I live in Singapore (timezone GMT+8).

Trading (from home) is a lonely endeavour, so if there is other traders doing Nikkei or from Singapore lets catch up and exchange trading ideas.

Cheers
