I am new to trading, I have some experience with mechanical trading. I am physician by training, still in Practice, but want to slow down, Golf does not interest me like my other friends, I find trading fascinating as long as can keep loosing money, but completely different than my day job. Only thing I have to contribute for now is related to illness , I am sure all my fellow members want to stay away from that, so I have been quite.
My interest is in statistical and intermarket analysis and correlations, since I am not very handy with software I have not been able to use my ideas. I have been working with Sierra charts for last 3 months and getting some understanding of Technical parameters, I read few Books on Market Profile.
I need sort of a Tutor to help me get started with the software issues, I have been trying to learn Multichart but going very slow. Not good at reading manuals, I wonder if any one on your forum can help me, I am willing to pay for someones time for sure.
I certainly enjoy the insight I get through your Forum.
Thanks BigMike

Well, I'm not new to retail trading, or investing in general, but now have the time, money, and equipment to try get serious about it. Hardest thing to get a firm grip on are the market smarts needed to be successful. But I'm truly thankful for the internet, and the data feeds and software available today. Using TOS currently and am in awe of the features and programmability, still learning every day after several months - there is soooo much depth in the program - and the markets.

I work w/an excellent broker/advisor and he keeps at least some $$ on the straight and narrow. But the temptation is there to take responsibility into my own hand and neurons for day trading w/other resources. I'm technical by nature and profession, plus I enjoy the competition and learning involved in the markets.

For me stocks are good for investing, but working through the daily retail 'stock advice' game re: day trading is a waste IMO, everyone from the market itself, and on down the line - just wants to scam your money. So right now I'm focused on /ES and futures in general for their purity, tax advantages, and ease of trading 7/24. TOS has taught me much about, time, tick, and range based charting, and am coming to grips with my failing re:understanding what is plainly in front of my eyes. I've got the technicalities of trading under my belt and feel comfortable live "paper trading" the /ES with TOS and am making some 'money'. But more practice and perfection is needed before I put my own $$ down and feel comfortable about it with futures. Live paper trading makes me "feel" pretty much just like it's real, and that's a good thing. Practice, practice, practice!

I realize there's no free lunch out there, I've lost too much in the past, and know you have to put your brain in gear and work it like a job to make it pay.

In short, right now, my very short term TOS predictive skills are fair (minutes to few hours), but my longer term market direction & prediction ability and discipline needs work and currently often gets me in trouble.

Looking forward to learning and sharing with others.

Hey Mike,

It's very cool that you've put this together for the traders of the world to come together and find support or just a place to be understood.

I placed my first trade back in 2000 after getting introduced to trading by Ken Roberts - I think he is singly responsible for getting more people in to trading than anyone, except for maybe the baby on the Superbowl commercials.

For the last several years (since Jan 2006), I've been helping traders avoid the same anguish that I experienced early on. When trading is good, it can be very good, but when it goes bad, it can really be bad.

Hello to everyone and I look forward to getting to know the good people here.

Cheers

TraderBrian

New to Big Mikes. I started trading spot forex, moved to futures. I am trying to go from just really treading water/losing little bits of money to really making consistent profits. Hope to see you all on the journey.

You guys are unbelievable group, charitable and extremely benevolent. The amount of information available here is astonishing. I've been perusing the forum for around a week just trying to figure out what is available. I am a volume guy so to me Gomi's work truly is a Godsend, but I'm a complete reprobate when it comes to programming or code, I have no idea what I'm doing so it's a little slow going getting set up and acclimated. I'm an advisor in the New England area but feel like a trader at heart. I don't trade for client's, strictly asset allocation; we manage around 3 bil so I won't be quitting my day job but like I said I love trading for me personally. One of my goals with trading is to make a lot of money to give away a lot money, there's a lot of folks around the world who could use some help.

I would like to reiterate my gratitude and gratefulness for those who have and continue to contribute to this forum. Whatever way you want to say it; you reap what you sow, what goes around comes around, karma; those of you who've helped others try to achieve their goals without anything in return, I believe a lot of good is coming your way.

Thanks everyone.

Hi everyone,

My name is Marcin, english is not my native language so I aplogise if I make any grammar mistakes. I'm from Poland.
I'm happy that google brouth me to this forum few weeks ago as going through threads I realised that users share here very valuable information.
My trading journey began 2 years ago when I started trading or better to say discover polish stock market. I was quite excited how the markets operate, started to go through some technical analysis studies like eliot waves, indicators and stuff like that. Aftre few month I realised that psychological issue of trading is mystery to me. I was amazed how I react on certain things which was happening on a market. I didn't like the "unknown" part of the market. That you can not be 100% sure where price is going to go. So i usually was waiting too long for the entry and as you might expect I was jumping in almost at the top, tired of watching how the price is taking new levels.
fortunately I did not loose big money during this market discovery path.
A year ago I have opened a demo account in Forex. Another excitment came in when I saw how volatile this market is, and how the price can go from one extreme to the other one. I thought "how is that possible, is the economy of each country changing so fast as price does on the charts?"
Meanwhile I was learning new technical indicators, indicators, indicators... Internet is full of information on indicators. In my oipinion after that 2 years experience, indis are usless. Indicators were not giving me confidence when to get in or out.
Fortunately I started to study VSA principles and those make sense to me. It also answered my earlier question:"how is that possible, is the economy of each country changing so fast as price does on the charts?"
Big money move the market. And they will do whatever want despite of the economy.
So I decided to go into VAS and market structure direction. I'm also testing range charts as those represnt pure price movement. No more indicators.

I hope that someone will read this as we are alll bussy.

Thanks
Marcin

Hi all

Just wanted to add to the legions of traders that have said hi and thanks to Mike for an excellent forum. Been lurking around for quite a while and looking forward to participating in time.

I have been trading on and off for about three years now with mixed success. Like many my first two (small) accounts were blown to smithereens with the gung ho foolishness of an impetuous noob!

Now somewhat wiser, and having learnt a lot, I am able to hold my own most days lol.

I trade mainly index and currency futures or spot FX as the mood dictates.

Up to now I have been using various brokers web trading platforms but a three month training course at a UK prop firm taught me that I needed to load up with a more robust data and charting package - so I am currently looking around US brokers to trade one of the more advanced set ups through Ninja/MC or another as yet to be decided platform. (Before anyone asks - didnt quite make the prop firm grade - so still have to work for a living unfortunately)

My goal is to trade full time eventually - but I am in no rush and am happy to invest the time to learn the business of trading as best as one can ever learn this ever moving feast!

Hope to interact with some of you in the months ahead.

Good trading all

Graeme
