Hi all,

I recently joined and I'm thinking seriously of leaving the business world and trading full time. My background includes risk managment roles at the CME, a large commodity broker, a world class hedge fund and currently, a major international bank. I have an MBA from an Ivy League school - which I know isn't worth squat for trading. I've traded in the past (mediocre at best) an I'm familiar with the challenges. I've used Tradestation in the past and prefer mostly automated trading and in particular, would like to develop my own techniques with .NET and C#. I also really like F#.

So far I've been reviewing Ninja Trader for it's C#-like scripting but I wonder if there are any other platforms that support dll integration without having to also be compiled in a particular language like NinjaScript apparently requires.

Comments?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to quickly intro myself. I've been trading for 4 years now and its been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. I started in 2008 with Bright Trading using a pairs trading/ statistical arbitrage strategy with NYSE stocks. Worked great when the VIX was sky high but I found out that the strategy did not suit my personality. After leaving Bright I got into futures day trading as intraday scalping is more suited to my psychology. I made the mistake of trading Crude futures off the bat and quickly got my arse handed to me. I dabbled in the NQ's but have found my home with the S&P emini's. I have studied and used Market Profile, cumulative delta, and footprint charts but in the past year I have geared towards an Al Brooks price action trading strategy with a few other variables. Strictly technical and no lagging indicators and a keen focus on price progression. Minimalism surprisingly has been the key. I hope to bounce and share ideas off fellow traders and vice versa. I'll post to suiting threads and if anyone out there trades in a similar fashion to me, feel free to PM me.

Cheers

I have been lurking the forums here for a long time since i have been more active on another forum but the quality here outweighs the amount of unneessary banter i have to siphon through over there.

I am an active Futures and Spot Market trader with heavy focus on DAX , Crude and Gold and will definitely be posting more frequently here once i have my VF account open.

Hi guys!

I've been interested in trading for a long, long time. However, I always thought of it as a dream and not really a possibility.

This forum certainly seems like an opportunity for me to figure out how to start and to be successful.

I hope to learn a lot and appreciate the opportunity!

I'm here on the recommendation of a friend.

Now I'm off the market in simulation (as many I ruined my initial account) but I would like to come back soon. I hope I have learned something and do better, but the truth is that I have lived long the trading nearly in solitude learning by myself, but it was not exactly a free choice...

On the one hand I had bad experiences with brokers (I do not give names in public -I am not authorized-, but I will do in private if someone wants to know): one of them is well known and literally never gave me a demonstrable reason of over 1,000$ that he put up as a loss in a strategy that he had, another, also well known, took from my account almost three months after an operation on the DAX the exchange value of this day and, of course, also as a cost to me... I do not know if this is because the brokers are from the U.S. and I am from Spain and a claim is very difficult, but... anyway, s is my experience and now I don't know how to choose the next.

And for the courses it wasn't better: "There are more people that are living from teaching trading than from the trading"... I don't want to say much more but, for example, I have a blog where I speak only about a person that cheated me with a course that was worthless, now I maintain this blog only for preventing other people about this person who continues selling courses.

I do not want to complain, ¡no way!, only clarify why I have said that I have lived in solitude the trading... But I have recommended this website and I hope to change this, to learn and, maybe, help others if is possible.

Best regards and good hunting!

Hello All,

I have traded the markets on and off for the past 15 years. I was full time day trading 1997-2000 before going to college and law school. Excited to be on here with others. Let's see if I can get the hang of this forum thing.

Hi Mike n All,
this forum looks like one I want to be involved with. I like Big Mike's rules for the room and this is certainly a place where everyone is the student and the teacher, regardless of their experience, otherwise we would be here, right?

Anyway I live in the northern beaches of Sydney, trade full time and I have like most, made some and lost some but overall my money management has been the key to my survival. I have just switched my charting package from Ensign to Ninja and hence finding this forum.

I trade the SPI, DAX and the FX Majors occasionally.

cheers
Birko

Hi Birko,
I used to live on the Northern Beaches myself until The Great Escape. Still it's not real tough up there
I have just begun watching the 5min on the SPI during regular trading hours and would appreciate any tips here on the forum. What's your trading style? From my armchair I saw at least 3 good trades yesterday for only 1 small loss but still learning to execute well on my platform, just demo for the time being. Hope to see you around.
Beno

Thanks for the forum Big Mike!

I'm a complete beginner in all matters pertaining to trading (shares, forex etc).

Tried forex in the past with no strategies or knowledge of how the market works, needless to say it was an expensive lesson.

Fast forward 2 years and my interest in forex has flared up again. This time however I'm learning as much as I can before jumping into market with live money.

Hope this forum can help.

Cheers

Dan.
