Hi guys/gals,

Just lost my savings looking at charts (using traditional TA). I've read tons of TA books but it appears that everyone else has read the same books (esp big money). This blowout has taught me that the real successful traders use TA for reasons other than its application. They use it to know what other traders are seeing/thinking (chess?). I am now disheartened with charts and derivative (indicators). Charts didn't tell me where price is...I now realize they only told me where price was (if that makes any sense). After some serious deep thought I've come to the realization that the only thing that really matters is price and volume. The closer I can get to this unadulterated price/volume action the better my chances of making a profit at this game. Now how do I get there (tape reading/Gom/MP)?

In the mean time I just started a part-time job this past Monday so I can build up my trading account. In between my breaks at work I'll be checking in with you guys/gals to see what it takes to make it. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm not trying to make a killing...just a living.

Thanks,
Kohtro

Hello Kohtro,

Your story looks and feels familiar to mine, already many years ahead. When I look back I can see that, apart from a big lack of knowledge my commitment with the financial worlds and the markets was inadequate. What we are doing is a form of speculation, we are not investing in a longer term. We are not contributing to society in any way and plainly want a piece of the big cake in front of us. Well, this last point is not that important because it's valid for many office workers who are merely producing and wasting paper, toner and energy. They are only link t to others, lost in the same digitized underworld.
What's important, I think, is that you realize in what world you are operating, what is going on and who are you to compete with big sharks who are eager to swallow you before you know the game? The story of losing is always the same: not knowing your self and over estimating your self. It is my story too untill I realized that it was a legitimate place for me because of who I am. I can learn and develop myself in this totally crazy underworld were the big sharks are making the rules (in their favor) and hunt the little.
We humans are at the edge of extinction. We have ruined the planet, but alas there are still a couple of billions left. As long as we learn from our lives we are improving and to me it seems that this might be the real game.
So do not only study to grab information and theory but try to feel what works for you. There are hundreds of tools you can incorporate but actually you will only work with a few. If you forget your self and go just for the glory you might make millions but I guess this is not in the box for most of us and that's fine. First try to have joy just experimenting with a demo account with instruments that fit you, with indicators that are revealing their secrets to you, and when you feel solid ground and know you are where you should be, start thinking of a real account.
Kohtro there's magic involved, look around and try to see what is important for you and you will see.

Success,
Steven227

I'm a forex enthusiast who likes trading USD/CAD against the DXY dollar index.
I'm fascinated by the tech side of chart reading but technicals are out of my
comfort zone (too many reversals or stops too tight). USD/CAD, on the other hand,
seems to respect S+R lines on the H4 and D1 charts. This for me presents an ideal pair.
Found my way here from a Murrey Math post @ forexfactory. Thanks Mike!

Much success in your trading - ablepress

Hi Kohtrol -

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. If I'm reading your post right..you're trading the emini at TradeStation. This just
happens to be my goal for q4 2012. In preparation for that move, I'm studying software interactivity at a very user
friendly website. Barry has developed a unique set of custom indicators and a newsletter that shows set-ups and
interpretations of daily market activity with very short lag time. The indicators are moderately priced and tailored
for TradeStation with no charge for the newsletter. I think you'll appreciate the great content there for emini traders.
Visit: Emini-watch.com Hope this helps. - ablepress

Hi guys! I just randomly stumbled upon this forum when I was doing a search on a company called PowerTradingFX, LOL, good for me I found out they're a scam because you have to PAY them (never ever payed anyone for my studies)!! Glad that's done with...

Anyways, my life in Forex began in 2008, where I read all of babypips, had a buddy who had a little more experience than me show me a few things, and I demo'd successfully for a little over a month. Then my big ego got in the way, and I put in $1000 (signed with Oanda, been with them ever since, and never leaving them), and what do you know, had a few successful days... and then came the crash, ahhh... greed took over, so did impatience, and a lot of emotion... experimenting with another currency (EUR/JPY instead of the cable) in my live account cause I thought I could, did not help, and helped me crash quicker. Blew out the account, took some time off. Later put in another $500, blew that as well.

I don't regret it, cause I definitely learned a few valuable lessons, and I don't like to demo trade, I rather trade live with very small amounts because that builds REAL experience. Nevertheless, took a lot of time off and lost interest somewhat, NOW I'm back into it, the fire has been rekindled, and I'm very to learn how to be successful and my ultimate goal is to trade FULL TIME and make big bank There has been no career field or hobby that sparks my interest like Forex does.

Glad I found this forum, read a few topics for now, registered.. hope I can contribute some, and learn even more!

P.S. - Shoutout to BigMike, read in a post that you trade full time, and I agree that there is nothing more liberating than becoming a full time trader!

Hi guys.

Just getting started here trading my own account after some time out of the markets. I have some previous experience on a prop desk, with low-commission/high-volume strategies that don't really translate to a small account with a day job. Hoping to discuss small account/money management, trading around a day job, simple indicators, semi-automation, and for the time being finding the right tools to get started.

Looking forward to learning from you guys, and I hope in my experience there is something I can share back.
