Welcome to futures.io.

Welcome, Guest!

This forum was established to help traders (especially futures traders) by openly sharing indicators, strategies, methods, trading journals and discussing the psychology of trading.

We are fundamentally different than most other trading forums:
  • We work extremely hard to keep things positive on our forums.
  • We do not tolerate rude behavior, trolling, or vendor advertising in posts.
  • We firmly believe in openness and encourage sharing. The holy grail is within you, it is not something tangible you can download.
  • We expect our members to participate and become a part of the community. Help yourself by helping others.

You'll need to register in order to view the content of the threads and start contributing to our community. It's free and simple, and we will never resell your private information.

Big Mike View Post
Hi everyone!

Like most day traders, I blew up my account a couple times and lost enough money to make most grown men weep. After I regrouped I started trading with common sense and with control of my emotions.

Later, I decided I wanted a forum to share my ideas as well as learn from others. I created my blog on April 17th, 2009 in order to meet this goal, as well as hold myself accountable for my trades and actions. I wanted a way to be able to lookback and ensure I was following my own advice.

The blog introduced me to a lot of fellow traders, some struggling, some doing exceptionally well. Talking with them everyday has really helped my trading and given me a lot of new ideas as well. In turn, I hope that I have provided them something useful that helps in their trading.

Since the blog did very well I decided to create this forum, and it was born June 11th, 2009. The forum was designed with the specific goal of having a small community of traders focused on making money. There are other sites out there but I never really felt at home with many of them, their userbase is too focused on proving someone wrong instead of trying to help.

You can find some more information about me in my profile.

Tip

After you read this thread and reply with your own introduction, you can find more Beginner articles on how to use this forum here:

Also, as you are reading the thousands of posts on the forum -- don't forget to use the Thanks button (bottom right of each post) to let the author know his post is appreciated!

Good hunting!

Mike

I am a day trader, currently trading the TF and loving it.

Thanks Mike!

intro

from mike to mike (boggy2) nice to meet a fellow trader who has lost plenty of money and addmits it. I have come to the stage of trading gold futures and am currently trading the minis before i enter the full contracts. Have worked out that gold moves in fib ratios of price and gann ratios of time. I use time tuned oscilators like stochastics as well as bollingers. Starting to record more hits than misses now of late. What caught me out recently was leaving no stop on an overnight position. Yes, very dumb. Emptied my account very quickly, so as a unbreakable rule, i always enter a stop upon entering a trade. Hope to observe your forum as a place where proffesionals can meet and exchange ideas. Catch up soon, regards, boggy2

Are you a NinjaTrader user?

hi all I am new to all blogging. It took me hours to figure out how to do this introduction.

Thankyou Big Mike for this wonderful site.
I have been here a few times since joining 20 days ago but last night I got addictive to it and stay up till 5 am.
Just a thought but is there a Big Mike's Chat room somewhere that has a open mic for us to join ?

on Ventrilo or Pal talk or one of the others venues

Well I have just downloaded the new beta 19 and she is sweet. She has opened her eyes like a brand new baby for the first time to the world for me today.

I Love this Ninja.

HTGRRRS (HopeToGetRealRichRealSoon)

Hi there

I am quite new in trading and while looking around I found this wonderful page. I really like the idea of sharing knowledge, unfortunately I can not program anything so possibly I will take more support than I will be able to give.
Nevertheless, thank you very much right now !

I am from Germany, and plan to trade e.g. YM, ES, FGBL, FDAX with the NT on a daily basis. Maybe also CL as BigBoss BigMike seems to do so. Hope I will find the exit from the volatile CL if necessary.

Any contact welcome .

A humble new member

Hi,

Mike, recently found your site, joined as an elite member and I am enjoying all it has to offer. Thank you for starting such an indepth forum like this! I have been a struggling trader for the last 5 years. Like so many struggling in this game of probability, I spent a fortune in ebooks, courses, ready-made systems and methods. One day in a moment of exasperation, I tossed out all my lagging indicators, black-box systems, fancy dashboards and the rest of the stuff that had created a deep hole in my wallet the size of the grand canyon.

Within the last year I have been reading books on market structure, price action, candlestick interpretation and volume as a leading indicator. This has led to simple multiple timeframe charts with a moving average and volume as my only indicators. Surprizingly, my trading has gotten better, who would have guesses??

In an effort to remain as indicator free as possible. I am hoping You or someone on the site can help me code a very simple(yet I think powerful) paintbar study for ninjatrader.

Paintbar
"if closing price is greater than previous 8 bar closing price average"
"if closing price is less than previous 8 bar closing price average"

On tick charts and volume charts, I think this is a good visual of momentum picking up, especially on a pullback.

Thank you

Hello

Hi all,

Quick intro: Ive been trading for about 5 years, options for the first 3 and futures for the last 2. I have been consistently successful trading futures for about 9 months now. This site is a great resource for traders and has helped me along the way so I though I would start contributing.

I mostly trade ES and CL. Less so, ZN and 6J. I use a 512 tick chart with a fib retracement strategy on ES while its trending and 8 range bars for when its moving sideways . My only indicators on the ES is are daily pivots and highs/lows of the overnight and current day. I also pay a small amount of attention to traders audio pit squawk.

With CL I mostly read tape and watch a 1 min chart and use a 5 min chart for confirmation. I watch for participation in breakouts then monitor the consolidation for signs of continuation for an entry. Stops are always 15 ticks and targets are always 30 ticks. I never move my stops nor targets. Ever.

With all trades on all markets I go all in and all out.

If anyone wants to chat about CL or ES or anything else hit me up anytime.

Regards,

Dan

Hello from a loser

Hello,

I am new here but not to the world of Forex. Needless to say I have lost far more than any money made. Still I persist and research in hopes of finding the Forex Fountain of Youth

Best Regards,
PL
