I've traded stocks on and off over the years using multi timeframe chart price action and volume. I've tended to stick with swing trading and longer term investing, because day-trading for me and with my skill level is unnecessarily risky Recently however I was intrigued with order flow so have started watching the action on the DOM (via JigSaw) and learning some of the micro-action. So far, it's been interesting

Greetings,

Just a quick introduction to say that I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of a community dedicated to trading. I am excited because I find myself obsessed with trying to learn the art and skill of trading futures. As a self described beginner I feel that I have learned a great deal with still so very much to learn. But am finding myself feeling isolated and often times constantly learning everything the hard way via trial and error. I am currently focused on developing automated NinjaTrader strategies.

Kind Regards to All. I look forward to observing and learning with the hope of possibly being able to contribute in a meaningful way as well in the future.

Hi,

I trade futures however I was taught 1-to-1 so I have never read books or discussed ideas in a forum.

See you around,
Fenchurch

Hi All,

Still relatively new to futures although I've been paper trading for about 6 months, have a friend who does exceptionally well and keeps pushing me. Several good strategies (7) that work quite well. Problem is I can't spend enough time at it working full time. Just beginning to see the patterns, read the charts and understand. Like learning a new language. Need to dig in deeper and use historical data to back test the strategies so I can develop a more comprehensive ability to execute.

Tom

Hi all! I'm new to trading futures. Started my journey in September around Labor Day. I started with NQ as the small tick amount and fast movement seemed like a good place to start. Oh my god what a rude awakening. I had no idea what I was getting myself into!

Playing with an account of 5000 my margin for error is very tight. After reading Trading in the Zone it opened my mind up to what it takes to succeed in this cutthroat business. Putting those words into practice is a whole other story.

So far I think I've been lucky to only be down 900 in PnL (+ almost that much in commissions). I attribute this to one lucky Eurodollar (GEH0) trade that I had in place before the presidential election. I had been anticipating the interest rate spike that has taken place since then. At the same time I threw caution to the wind and traded ZN recklessly during the election coverage and brought the account to almost break even (in retrospect probably one of the best trading situations of the year).

Since the election I have only been trading ZN with minimal success. I've tried sitting at the computer in after hours 7-10 pm est with little success. There have been a couple times where I had the right idea but got stopped out overnight to the tick.

When I sit at the computer and trade the normal session I tend to get chopped up selling into uptrends/buying downtrends trying to time tops/bottoms. Looking back on the losing trades I ask myself, "Why did you do that?"

I do win enough times to make this a slow bleed.

I'm wrong more than I am right. I have been getting better at letting the losers go at one or two ticks rather than the five tick hard stop I have in place.

Sorry for rambling on in an intro post...it's good to put some thoughts into words. This trading game is so frustrating yet at the same time so amazing.

Thanks for accepting me in the forum. My target here is to learn as much as possible and contribute whenever possible. Never traded before Futures at all, I am a pre-newbie.
I have traded Forex with no success so far.
I am greatly overwhelmed by the amount of information and tips in this forum.
