Still Learning....

Guys and Gals :

Just want to say Hello. I've poked my head in this Traders community for Years and I've finally seen the Value of this website started by Big Mike. Much Thanks !

I've been Trading Electronic Futures since 1993 in Chi-town. Currently, I'm trading 5 strategies on roughly 50 different Futures contracts. My strategies consist of : simple arbitrage, mean reversion and scalping techniques. Nothing complicated at first glance. I've been profitable every year ...most good, some ok and a few ridiculous. Currently, I've got 2 Daughters about to go to college So I need to hop to it on this Website and Learn a few more strategies .

I'm hoping to connect with some new Traders since about 95% of the traders I've known over the years are now "Former traders" . And Most importantly, Learn a thing or two.

Thanks Big Mike,

Kinda newbie

Dear all,

I started trading on my own in 2006 as an amateur from uni days punting blindly on oil and equity index via spread betting and blew up the account several times trying to be smart making money from the trend in oil rally but trading equity from the short side thinking equity is overvalued and never thinking about correlation between the two asset class. Obviously, those who think equity was overvalued in 2006 got burnt as it rallied to 2008 until the subprime and collapsed but rallied again to make fresh multi year high in 2015 thanks to helicopter Ben.

After burning through my account for the third time I decided to take a chill pill and find a job and earn some money the traditional way. Fortunate enough to land a job as a trader at a small bank trading FX for a living. After working for a while, then I realise that there is actually no edge/advantage working for a bank/fund/hedgefund etc as market is extremely efficient and the FX market is too big for any one individual to move the market unless of course you are the central bank.

Even till today, it is obvious that even hedge funds are not as smart as we "perceive" them to be - plenty of headlines on Bloomberg recently from the great Paul Tudor facing redemption to Alan Howard, nobody is spared - and there is no edge for them as central banks policy dictate market movement - which at best is anyone's guess given how indecisive the FED has been lately. So I came to the conclusion that the only way to be profitable trading is to focus on price, and price alone, and I figured the best traders that rely on price alone to make a living are probably all of you in this forum!

I look forward to sharing some of my charts with you guys and in return hope to learn something new from all of you.

Thanks for creating this forum Big Mike,

new in this site

Hi everyone,

I've been trading full time for last year and I'm still fighting to be consistent and stop losing money ;-), but still motivated to achieve it!!

I hope here I could find new ideas, or help in some issues.

I'm also programming some strategies but not working yet as I expected. I have lots of problems with historical data. It would be nice if someone could help me on that (providers with high quality historical data -tick data- etc.)

Time to turn the corner

Well here we go, hopefully the first of many.

There comes a point in life where you realise you aren't as smart as you thought you were. Thats why Ive come here. I just visited that place and was lucky to have been googleing for education in trading due to my recent failings and found

Glad to be amongst you all.

Hey all, glad to have found the forum. Like many of you - lost a fair chunk of money right when I got into trading, mostly due to not 'setting stops' - either automatic, or mentally checking out for the day. I've since regrouped, have a pretty decent plan of throwing the brakes on, on a daily basis - and am eventually looking to do this full time. Not looking to 'get rich quick' or anything like that, but I'm just tired of 'working for the man.'

I enjoy travel - so the ability to do this from anywhere is really appealing. Looking forward to seeing what the entire forum has to offer! Cheers!

This is nikhil , i am self employed & independent trading contractor from India trading INR denominated commodity futures for my own proprietary algorithmic trading account & working a contractual job with a leading options market making arbitrage trade desk in equity indexes for %p$L share.
I am authorized person [AP] in domestic commodity exchange MCX or www (dot) mcxindia (dot)com so theoretically i can legally add clients as a broker but i have 0 clients as i am purely focused on proprietary algorithmic trading as opposed to building a brokerage business. In India authorized person [AP] is mandatory for 100% automated trading.

In Commodities i swing trade only 4 products - Silver/Crude Oil/Copper/Natural Gas Futures
In Commodities i day trade only 1 product - Crude Oil Futures
In Equities only 2 product for my employer - Nifty & Bank Nifty Index Options

In terms of directional biases for automated scripts in commodities i would like to be long 67% of the trades & short only 33% of the trades for both swing & day trading.
