I just signed up about a week ago, took me a while to figure out how to post, hope I got it right.
I've been trading stocks since 2005 and blew up my account a few times due to not understanding risk versus reward. I switched to trading the eminis about three years ago but I am not doing much better. Probably because of the bad habits I picked up along the way. I still trade stocks but I am concentrating more on futures for various reasons. I'm trying to learn order flow now and found this great forum after ordering Peter Davies DOM from Jigsaw Trading. So although I'm not new to trading, I definitely need work in certain areas and will appreciate any and all input I get from this site. Thanks to all. Glad to be here.

Hello, I'm new to this forum. Glad to be here. Been trading off/on for over 10 years. My trading success has been spotty. No great successes to report and I have not been consistantly profitable. I have used a number of trading systems both manual and auto-trade. What I have discovered is that this trading business takes practice, practice and more practice. Therefore I am dedicating myself to practicing more using the ninjatrader platform and the market replay feature.
Have also allowed the "experts, gurus, and other assorted trading geniuses" to trade my accounts in the past with much less success than I have achieved on my own.
Looking forward to exploring this forum and learning.
Thank you.

I will repost my answer from my journal in response to a trader situation similar to yours. Good Luck.

"Here is an intro to ACD method.

ACD Method Intro. https://www.clever-trading-strategies.com/primer_on_acd_method.html

Just read last 4 weeks of posts along with BTR411 posts.

repeat the set ups in a practice/simulated account and see if trades makes sense to you. Also watch Vince Virgil end of the videos posted in his journal under " CL trades" tab. Once you find something you like, ignore everything else and PRACTICE, PRACTICE and more PRACTICE till you can not stand CL.

Only 3-5 set ups. Again and Again.

Once you master one instrument try other instruments. Method and set ups are the same for every other instrument.

I will also recommend to stay away from thick instruments like E-mini etc. You want to get trained on an instrument which has Volatility and then ONLY trade volatile instruments like currency pairs etc. unless one wants to sit all day trading E-mini etc and watch PAINT DRY.

Keep the learning and eventual trading method SIMPLE. New traders get very excited as they find new tools like market profile, Gann, Fib etc and end up spending 1000's of hours without going anywhere.

Every trader if they are successful eventually come to realize this and start taking things off their chart and move towards neat, clean charts and set ups.

Some of the most successful traders I know- trade 3-5 set ups everyday , day after day with the SIMPLEST set ups and logic.

Follow Mike Bellafoire blog and read his books. If you can prepare the way his traders prepare for a trading day in his book " Playbook" you have a chance. SMB capital is an equity day trading firm. I do not think day trading stocks for a retail trader is a good idea but the process laid out in the book is EXCELLENT.

Hello fellow traders,

Here's my story. When I was a child I was fascinated by TV shows live from the stock market pit: people acting frantically, plenty of figures written on a big board...alas, I was too young to trade. I didn't choose to study finance, as a geek I chose computer science. Soon after I graduated, internet stocks were all the rage, and I was hooked again. Thanks to deregulation and web brokers, I opened my first account in 98 to trade stocks based on news, “funny mentals” and guts. Then came the crash. My portfolio almost collapsed due to excessive leverage, concentration and short-term focus. Big losses were not the most damaging: psychological damages turned me, a gunslinger, into a chicken.

Then I decided to have a break for studying money management and technical analysis. In the process,I discovered commodity trading systems. Due to my computer background, I thought it could be easier to get an edge in this area. So I started writing systems and trading futures long term, with some success. Encouraged by these results I turned towards stocks again, studying every investing method I could find and finally developing my own long-term stock investing systematic method (growth/momentum). After that recovery, I focused on short-term trading again. Back in the discretionary game but on different beasts: bonds, oil, stock indexes, major currencies. Alas, I still feel the consequences of my early losses, avoiding too many valid setups, trading too lightly after a few losses etc...Although I am making some money (trading is now my main revenue source) I am still struggling with my psych. However, things improve slowly: I can feel my confidence coming back month after month. I am amazed by how much money I have left on the table by being overcautious.

I have developed good day trading methods and efficient tactics to avoid any severe loss; I am experienced enough to get a good feeling in some markets, I am well (enough) disciplined. I need to make progress in detecting trading opportunities, developing my confidence, paying attention to my feelings, keeping my ego in check. I also intend to pass the CFTe exam (personal challenge), and open a blog to help casual stock investors.

I am an irregular reader of futures.io (formerly BMT) forums for a long time. I won't connect every day, but will try to post a few times a week if I can help/propose things for thought. After 15 years in the game, I think it is time to give back to the community. I am well-versed in Amibroker so I can help in this area too. I use it for backtesting, charting, detecting setups, stock investing. Previous user of Ninjatrader, some Perl scripts. Last, I am French and live in Paris. I hope my poor English is understandable.

One of the ways you can give back to the community is to start a journal at futures.io (formerly BMT). If maintaining a journal is too time consuming for you then post your charts , set ups from time to time in a journal like mine.

I am always looking for new ways/ideas to look at markets.

Thanks,

I am very pleased to be a member of Big Mike's.

Having taken a week or so to look around the Forum and try to familiarize myself with the content, I must say there is so much quality stuff here it is just fantastic, so good to be in a trading environment that is not full of junk information and sales crap!

I have been a student of the Futures Markets for a number of years now, unfortunately I have tried to go the route of a few trading rooms, suffice to say it has not worked out !

Although I have proved to myself twice over that I have the discipline to not blow out an account, I have yet to find a trading method I have confidence enough in to 'Go for it'.

My interest is in Attempting to read Order Flow and the daily tricks played out throughout the day by big money players and market makers, I want to learn more!!

That is what I'm doing here. :amen

Hello,

Fairly new member. Been lurking for a while and enough message bars reminding me to post something finally drove me here for introducing myself.

After a few years hiatus of novice and intermediate trading and investing, I am getting back on the learning path to maybe find a way to do this for a living one ready.

Currently using Interactive Brokers, Ninja Trader, and Fidelity Active Trader Platforms. Stocks, SSFs, & Futures. Very little options as I seem to royally suck on that front... Outside of typical stocks, ETFs, and related swing trades, also trying to learn (sim) to consistently scalp a couple of points every morning on ES, GC, CL, ZS, and a few other trading short term trend pullback entries but the method/trader combo is far from where it needs to be:-//

So far, IMHO, futures.io (formerly BMT) seems to be one of the best trading knowledge-base centers in the universe.... Kudos to all...

Cheers,

Hi all,

Long time follower, first time posting a comment.

I'm here because I don't have any other choice. I've been scammed by self-proclaimed trading coaches and have had a enough.

I'm here to learn about trading: Commodities, Stocks, and Forex. I want to learn Ninjatrader and increase my probability of becoming profitable trader.

Thanks,

DT10K
