I've been day trading, when time permits, for a year (investing far longer) at the office - - mostly tna and tza, but not with a serious enough focus to have been successful. Now that I am retired, I will trade more full time - see what I can do. I'll graduate to index futures soon; and am interested in finding a proven/reasonable futures broker. I'll start out small and take my time. My investment account is with Ameritrade/TOS, but I understand they may not be the best for futures trading. Thanks Mike for hosting this forum - I look forward to learning and participating.

Welcome Aboard !!

I have used Amp along with NinjaTrader since the the beginning... I researched for several weeks when I
first started and have no regrets. The guys are great over there

If you already had a TDAmeritrade account you may be able to use Ninjatrader with your account already. Maybe you could try the Ninja trial and then see if you can use it on your TDA account. In light of the PFGBest scandal, TDA as an umbrella brokerage of different types instruments isn't a bad choice imo. The TOS platform has only gotten better in features and performance and TDA seems committed to the platform for traders' accounts.

A couple of journals using TOS on options and/or futures:

Hi All,

I'm an entreprenuer. I've own(ed) a number of companies. Most barely breakeven. Been trading stocks for 15 years (stopped awhile back), options 13 years (but stopped the last 6 years), futures for 9 years (my forte). I've sunk some money into my 'education', but in reality it is a much better investment and not as much as I've lost on some of my failed companies.

It was better spent recently when I started taking courses through the Canadian Securities Institute and I have almost completed my certification as a Market Derivative Strategist. Regardless, I'm trained as an option and futures trader. I've been doing this while running a successful construction company and building up an investment company (private fund managment) which is a week or two away from finally raising a small amount of capital after many years of work. I've built multiple strategies within Tradestation then moved them on to Multicharts / Interactive Brokers when Tradestation pulled out of Western Canada. We utilize these diversified proprietary systems now in our investment company that does not bad. After all this time I really don't get too much into easylanguage even though I am working on automating one of them (uggh).

I have an extensive investment library with some basic and rare books that have shaped my thoughts. It has really been a 20 year journey as I would not be as good a trader (I believe) if I did not have my business/public experience (money & people managment) to go with my trading experience. Besides that, through honesty and integrety I've been able to actually meet some pretty great people in my investment community along the way.
We should be managing a small amount of private money at the beginning of November, so I will be more active on this board as I work towards an interesting future.

Oh, if there are people in my area, please don't hesitate to contact me as it is hard to run into people that have a real passion for trading.

Cheers, Lee.

Hi, Folks!. I though I'd introduce myself here. I have been trading since Sept 2008. Right before the big crash. Got my head handed to me.
I switched to forex after losing my PDT status with stocks and I'm struggling big time. To put it plainly. I suck. Been to webinars, bought the indicators and robots and attended all day workshops. Don't know what the deal is but capital seems to just slowly dribble away no matter what strategy I try or trick i pull.

So, now that that sorry, but truthful, introduction is out of the way.......

I thought I would sign up here and see if there is something I can learn. Something that 'clicks' and turns me into the big trader i wanna be. Cheers! =)

Hi Everyone,

I am on a mission, to be able to Trade for a Living and not have to work a 9 to 5 job. I am currently trying to put into place a business plan, to create structure in my trading. I have been trading for about 5 years, but still yet to make a positive return in any one year.

Look forward to learning from this forum and share ideas.

Thanks for sharing Mike. This is a great resource for any trader trying to make their way.
I have been profitable and unprofitable with great inconsistency. I continue my quest for consistency and profitability. Along the way I have reduced my position sizes and developed systems and a methodology. I have a traders journal and am working on pulling the trigger and "seeing" my setups.
The quest continues

Been trading options since 2006. Did well on the putty side of mortgage companies. Go camping alot in the summer and left about 5k in my PFG account. Read steenburger, followed woodies room, done alot of other time consuming things. With futs, the minute I feel good about a strategy, I get popped up side the face.
In the regular world I learn fast, but with traders some get so advance with systems, I never see it.
Wifes a teacher and is getting hammered, so I need to contribute more.

Greetings from London.

A wise man recommended that I look at Big Mike's Trading forum - I can see why.
I have been trading forex for that last 2 years with mixed results (mostly poor). Too many indicators, changing strategies frequently - doing all the wrong things.

I am looking to become more consistent with them help of
Money Mangement
Emotion Mangement
and by applying the KISS principle on the charts

Regards
Sam

Yep, I've been lurking in this forum for way too long and not contributing and that simply has to change

Price action, strong money management, identifying and kicking bad habits. Getting rid of indicators and trading in the here and now, journalling my trades (no matter how ugly) and learning from my mistakes. learning patience has been really hard but I'm getting there.

I have traded profitably for the last five years but now I need to take it to the next level. I am over 50 years old and wonder how many of you have made it at such a tender age. Does age make any difference in making the transition? Can you teach an old dog new tricks?

So, from now on, I intend to stop lurking and start contributing.

I think 50 is the perfect age. You are free from the youthful influences that rob us of our time. Now we
can focus on the task at hand. ( yes, I am also 50)

Trade Price Action. Keep targets larger than risk and trade with the trend. You will be fine.

Here is to the "Old Dogs" !!!!
