Here is a question to ponder: between the 'system' and the 'trader', how do you think that each contributes to profitability (e.g. percentage)? 80% system/20% trader? 20% system/80% trader? 50/50?....Do you think that a more sophisticated system (i.e. more indicators, better indicators) is the key to profitability? Or do you think that a better trader is the key? The answer should guide the priorities.

Do you think that it takes a excellent driver or an excellent car to win a Formula 1 race? I think the result will depend on both driver and car. It is not the sum of car and driver but the product of both that makes up for success.

Trading systems are like organisms that feed on the behaviour of other traders, so they need to be sophisticated, as they need to be both adaptive to ever changing market conditions and robust. Too many indicators can actually produce the opposite.

But a good trading system can be bought or put together quickly. You cannot easily buy the knowledge and experience to operate it, so the training of trading skills should be the focus.
